THE CURMUDGEON CHRONICLE - #238

THE CURMUDGEON CHRONICLE ©

AN IRREVERENT VIEW

Time Line: May 24, 2008
Date Line: Flemington New Jersey

During the early Clinton years I wondered why anyone would hate Hillary Clinton whose purpose was to provide everyone with healthcare insurance. I wondered why this woman could engender such animosity for espousing worthy ideals, but now I understand.

How can anyone admire a person who suggests that a well placed bullet would make her the nominee of the Democrats, and that she was going to prolong the contest to see if that would happen? Was she addressing her alleged constituency of hard working, white, West Virginians in the same manner that an English King once asked whether there was no one to rid him of a turbulent priest?

It is impossible for a candidate with the political experience of Hillary Clinton to mistake the effect of her words. When viewed in the light of her tactics throughout the campaign it is obvious that she knew the meaning and effect of those words and fully intended them to hit home. Perhaps she hoped to strike a responsive chord in the lunatic fringe of society and make reality out of her supposition.

I heard Keith Olberman tell his audience that we cannot forgive this conduct despite the fact that we have forgiven Clinton’s lies and deplorable tricks in the past. Maybe Olberman forgave her; I have never forgiven her and her husband for turning the nominating process into a Jim Crow baiting contest.

After the Iowa Primary I thought Americans showed they could consider a person on his merits rather than the color of his skin or religion. That has been borne out in Oregon and in other States with minimal black populations.

That is not to say that after Iowa I was prepared to vote for Obama, My adverse feeling about Hilary did not come about until she and her husband turned the clock back 75 years and made the nomination a test of black vs., white, adopting tactics that we have heretofore seen displayed by the likes of George W. Bush and Karl Rove.

I think that circumstances changed drastically after Clinton’s remarks about assassination. Any Democrat delegate (whether super or elected) has an absolute obligation to stop supporting Hilary Clinton in the interest of common decency.

Clinton has put an end to the so-called “dream ticket” of Obama and Clinton. Even the staunchest Hilary supporter cannot imagine Obama’s tolerance extending to selection of a running mate who has suggested that he be assassinated.

UGH!!
