Man is the only species that values fame and hoards wealth. No self respecting lion would raise a paw to be known for the loudest or most melodious roar. No gorilla of my acquaintance would maintain a position in cotton futures or try to corner the zinc market. A gorilla knows when his need for a commodity is limited and concentrates on dinner and being groomed by his mates.
For some men there is no aphrodisiac more powerful than fame and no sex-toy more provocative than a microphone or podium. You can keep anonymity and peace; for some humans there is nothing like a headline to make the day worthwhile.
William Jefferson Clinton reached the highest office in the land despite behavior that would put most of us behind bars, or in psychiatric care. He even became an elder statesman. The process of being saintly while making money precludes making waves. Waves can expose clay feet; things that elder statesmen are not supposed to have.
Millions of dollars and past glory don’t make the grade when compared with the power to raise the roof and be the center of controversy. Giving Mr. Clinton the opportunity to make waves was like having an intern offer to show him her underwear: immediate seduction followed by loss of intelligence.
Whether you think Mrs. Clinton is seasoned or not, there is one area of experience in which she should excel: knowing Bill Clinton. To know someone without using your knowledge of their proclivities speaks poorly of one’s judgment. How could she possibly allow him free rein with her candidacy?
If she knew what his tactics were and condoned them, her ethics and morality fail to pass the tests for the Presidency. If she did not know what he would do or say, she should have made certain he would not demean the electoral process and portray her in his own image.
If anyone knows his history of falsehoods and innuendo, it is Mrs. Clinton. Giving her the benefit of the doubt you might say she did not condone Bill’s tactics, but neglected to make sure of what he would say. I believe that prove she is unworthy of our support.
The country does not need another President who must apologize for unbecoming conduct. If a President lies about weapons of mass destruction, sex with interns, or anything else, he is unfit to represent this country.
We recognize that Presidents are only human, and only ask that for four year intervals they become as Caesar’s wife, exhibiting conduct beyond reproach. If they do that we get well represented and the President is rewarded. What reward you ask? The President gets the greatest gift any fame seeking, money hungry, red-blooded, human can ask for.
**He gets his picture on the money.
He is assured he will always be remembered and will personify wealth, fame and glory just for being truthful for four years. That is less than the time you serve for a burglary conviction. Any politician should be able to do the time standing on his head.
Howard Stamer
** We include women and men in the terms “men” and “He”. You remember, “It all depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is.”
